Back from Puerto Rico Honeymoon

Posted by firstman2006 on June 29, 2007

Lizzie and I are back from our Puerto Rico Honeymoon, and hard at work. We had a fabulous time that was filled with both Gran Melia PR Beachlounging about the pools, and some scheduled activities/unscheduled activities.

To see all of our Puerto Rico pics, check out the Gran Melia picture set on my Flickr account.

Highlights of our trip.

  • Went to a sales pitch for the Gran Melia Vacation Club, that is something like a flexible Time Share were you buy vacation time at any of the Gran Melia resorts as well as partner resorts; which ends up being quite an impRosemarry of Gran Melia Vacation Clubsressive inventory of sites. I will be blogging more about this on the Travels of Lizzie Bean travel blog, which can be reached by clicking the previous link.
  • Went to Old San Juan the day after meeting with Rosemarry of Gran Melia Vacation Clubs. Our first time out driving in Puerto Rico. Took a little while to get used to the road signs. (Sur= South,Este=East, Old San Juan FortNorte=North, and oeste= West). West and East had us a bit confused. It also did not help that the direction of the roads does not stay the same. For example if you are on rt 22 heading east, and it starts going south, you will find yourself suddenly on 22S.
  • I got sick on Thursday, so we lost a day since I was in bed sleeping the entire day.
  • Drove to Rincon on El Noche de San Juan. Got to see a lot of the island.
  • Had a trip to the Spa and had a couples massage that was oh so sweet.
  • Went Kayaking at night on an Enchanted Kayaking trip. We were the worst Kayakers. We ended up being towed by the guide. Two people who do not know their left from right in a Kayak is a very cosmical site. The Bioluminescent Bay was so cool.
  • Gambled and won more than we lost.
  • Arrived home safely.

In looking back, we would love to go back to Puerto Rico again, and very likely will.

Topton Boardwalk Park

Posted by firstman2006 on June 13, 2007

The park at Topton has been a favorite park for me to take my kids for well over a decade. I started taking my son there Hermans Drive-In of Toptonwhen he was a preschooler, and then took both him and my daughter there on a regular basis. It must have been a while since we had been there, but the other day, my daughter requested that I take her to the park and then to Hermans Drive in for Ice Cream.

The Ice Cream at Hermans was good, but sadly, the park has since fallen into a state of disrepair. Boards are broken and as you can tell by the pictures, graphiti is everywhere.

If I was a business that had sponsored this park, I would be embarrassed to  have my name associated with the park being in this condition. I will have to give it serious thought the next time I think about going to here.

Rectal Thermometer Title

Posted by firstman2006 on May 10, 2007

I just changed the title of the site from My Rectal Thermometer Blog to “Site For Sale” but will eventually become “Live,Laugh,Love Daily“, because the rectal thermometer title has worn out its uniqueness, and is no longer amusing. I also noticed that the page rank for this blog dropped to PR3 form PR4, more than likely because I have not been spending anytime on it. Hopefully the name change will help out with my desire to spend time on it.

Site For Sale

Oh, I have also decided to sell the domain name Myrectalthermometer.com if anyone would like to buy it, its for sale and expires in July. Will be transfering over all of this sites Rectal Thermometer posts to bolster it up a bit. Inquire about the sale by leaving a comment here.

Read more about the flipping of a domain and others.

Insullation for Home Office

Posted by firstman2006 on May 10, 2007

Our home office is on the third floor, however, we are temporarily working at the kitchen table again due to the swealtering heat. We have a little AC unit in one of the widows, but it seems like it has little affect. The 80+ year old Boyertown stone house has very insulation, so we are in the progress of taking bids from local contractors to insulate it.

The first contact I made was with ServiceMagic, which after filling out a web form, I recieved a phone call a day and half later, saying I should be getting 2 to 3 calls about estimates with a day or so.

Then I was doing a little client work(yes say it isn’t so, I must work)and I came upon another site Harron’s Insulation & Ceilings and sent them a message, and received a phone call in less than an hour telling me I would receive a phone call within the next couple of days from the technician who would be contacting me to give me a free estimate. The woman on the line was very apologetic, that it would take so long, but apparently it is the busy season.

Soda for Breakfast

Posted by firstman2006 on March 30, 2007

Lizzie and I went to CD’s Place in Boyertown for breakfast this morning after going to the gym for a workout. CD's Place, Boyertown, PALizzie is starting Jenny Craig this week, so this will be the last time for about 6 weeks that she will be able to eat at CD’s. We both ate relatively healthy breakfasts, and both left some grub on our plates.

The worst thing about my breakfast was the soda that I had with it. Lizzie too had a soda(Diet Coke), but upon looking at the soda selection, I noticed the Mello Yello tab on the soda machine was still on, and Pam, our outstanding waitress verified it was still available. Usually soda is not my choice for breakfast, but would rather have an apple juice or OJ. Since this is the last Mello Yello that will be delivered to CD’s Place, I had to partake.

Prior to taking my first sip of the delightful Mello Yello, I had to promise myself that I would not make the same mistake as the previous time I drank it, and sing the Mello Yello ditty to myself. Pam chastised me last time because she was then singing it for the rest of the day.

Lost Luggage | Use Luggage Tags

Posted by firstman2006 on March 22, 2007

Lost Luggage is a problem that many airports, including PHL(Philadelphia Airport code) must endure. Having personally experienced the event of Lost Luggage tracking down Lost Luggage, I can personally testify that the airline personnel, will try within their limited abilities, but most certainly they are ill equipped to deal with frustrated patrons who have lost a piece of luggage.

For a detailed description of my adventure while successfully attempting to recover my lost luggage, please visit the above lost luggage post link.

Perhaps I should invest in some Luggage tags such as the ones available from Luggageonline.com to insure the identification of my bags. The information on these tags includes phone number, address and email.

I was reading on another travel blog that most bags are lost during late check ins and during quick stop overs. That does make sense.

In my situation, it was a midnight check in, and the person who arrived on the same flight as me, but made it to luggage terminal ahead of me, did not check the bag carefully. The husband was given the task of picking up the family bags…need I say more. A very common mistake that even I would be capable of making. I then made the mistake of assuming the girl who took my information for a lost bag new what she was doing, and did not verify the info she typed into the computer.

The airline however, uses a contractor that is paid per piece of lost luggage returned, whether or not it is returned to the right place or not. My bag was on a ticket for a person who lived in NJ. They left her bag and my bag outside of her house at night, and then called and verified receipt. However, her roommate answered the phone, and looked out and saw them and verified. The roommate just assumed that both bags were hers.

After doing a reverse name look up on Google, I found a phone number and gave her a call. Several hours later, to my dismay, I got a phone call saying they had my bag. And the rest is history that can be read in the my previous lost luggage blog post.

Hello Mello Yello…or Goodbye

Posted by firstman2006 on March 9, 2007

Went to breakfast this morning at CD’s Place diner in Boyertown, as we do on many mornings. Last time I had been in, Chris, the owner, had some sad news for the kids. He was in possession of the last box of Mello Yello soda syrup that he Mello Yello soda picwould be receiving from his distributor. Mello Yello is being phased out and the new soda is Vault. So this morning instead of ordering coffee, I ordered a large Mello Yello, since it could very well be the last time I will be able to have it. As a kid, I had drank it on numerous occasions, but as an adult, my carbonated beverage consumption has reduced considerably. When I do drink a carbonated beverage, or a soda, it will more than likely be a cola. I’m a Pepsi fan, Lizzie swears by Coke. So even though it was quite sweet, I drank the Mello Yello while eating my swiss-mushroom omelet with whole grained bread and cottage fries. If you get a chance to get over to CD’s grab a Mello Yello while you can. If you find some available in the stores, you might want to stock up and get ready for the Mello Yello frenzy.

Sunrocket

Posted by firstman2006 on February 23, 2007

Just thought I would share, I thought it was funny but someone came to the site by typing the search terms “Sunrocket”can not hear“”. Hmm,  is this an indication of Sunrockets service?  Is anyone out there that has had good service from them? First brought up the issue of Sunrocket in the post “Sunrocket VOIP for Phone Service“. At the time of the post it was apparently a hot company which had had an influx of capital. Not quite sure how it is doing now? Nor what kind of service they provide.

Just noticed that it was listed first in a post title VOIP Biggest Losers. Aparently the last two original founders just left.  Hmm does not sound good for Sunrocket.

Restaurant and Entertainment Reviews

Posted by firstman2006 on February 10, 2007

We just started a new blog that will be the place for all of my positive Restaurant reviews, negative ones will be on this blog. We (Lizzie Bean) will be doing healthy eating site reviews on Lizzie Bean’s new Dieting Blog, Fatladysingz.com.

The url of this blog maybe changing also, since we regsiter the domain Myrectalthermometer.com and installed a wordpress script on it. Just have to get around to finding a template. I would like to start using a thermometer to rate postings, that kind of looks like a cartoon but with a themometer coming out of it. And depending upon how negative the post would be would indicate how negative a post it would be. Not sure of the scale…US uses Farenheight and most of the rest of the world uses Celsius. Might just use a 1-10 rating. Ten being really sucky like George Bush, which would be the most negative, and 1 being mildly annoying, kind of like Gilbert Godfrey. Of course this is all in my head, totally conceptual, but if there are any good artists out there who would like to submit graphics, I can give you some press and links, and maybe a little dinero. I tried making one in my simple art program, but it was truly embarassing.
