Slaw Dog Wrap

Posted by firstman2006 on June 26, 2008

Slaw dogs as you know, are one of my favorites. The other morning, I stopped in at CD’s Place in Boyertown, and was told by Chris, the owner about the Slaw Dog Wrap. So the next time I was in, which happened to be for breakfast the following Saturday, I ordered one up. Below is the video I made of me eating the Slaw Dog Wrap.

Soda for Breakfast

Posted by firstman2006 on March 30, 2007

Lizzie and I went to CD’s Place in Boyertown for breakfast this morning after going to the gym for a workout. CD's Place, Boyertown, PALizzie is starting Jenny Craig this week, so this will be the last time for about 6 weeks that she will be able to eat at CD’s. We both ate relatively healthy breakfasts, and both left some grub on our plates.

The worst thing about my breakfast was the soda that I had with it. Lizzie too had a soda(Diet Coke), but upon looking at the soda selection, I noticed the Mello Yello tab on the soda machine was still on, and Pam, our outstanding waitress verified it was still available. Usually soda is not my choice for breakfast, but would rather have an apple juice or OJ. Since this is the last Mello Yello that will be delivered to CD’s Place, I had to partake.

Prior to taking my first sip of the delightful Mello Yello, I had to promise myself that I would not make the same mistake as the previous time I drank it, and sing the Mello Yello ditty to myself. Pam chastised me last time because she was then singing it for the rest of the day.

Hello Mello Yello…or Goodbye

Posted by firstman2006 on March 9, 2007

Went to breakfast this morning at CD’s Place diner in Boyertown, as we do on many mornings. Last time I had been in, Chris, the owner, had some sad news for the kids. He was in possession of the last box of Mello Yello soda syrup that he Mello Yello soda picwould be receiving from his distributor. Mello Yello is being phased out and the new soda is Vault. So this morning instead of ordering coffee, I ordered a large Mello Yello, since it could very well be the last time I will be able to have it. As a kid, I had drank it on numerous occasions, but as an adult, my carbonated beverage consumption has reduced considerably. When I do drink a carbonated beverage, or a soda, it will more than likely be a cola. I’m a Pepsi fan, Lizzie swears by Coke. So even though it was quite sweet, I drank the Mello Yello while eating my swiss-mushroom omelet with whole grained bread and cottage fries. If you get a chance to get over to CD’s grab a Mello Yello while you can. If you find some available in the stores, you might want to stock up and get ready for the Mello Yello frenzy.

Restaurant and Entertainment Reviews

Posted by firstman2006 on February 10, 2007

We just started a new blog that will be the place for all of my positive Restaurant reviews, negative ones will be on this blog. We (Lizzie Bean) will be doing healthy eating site reviews on Lizzie Bean’s new Dieting Blog, Fatladysingz.com.

The url of this blog maybe changing also, since we regsiter the domain Myrectalthermometer.com and installed a wordpress script on it. Just have to get around to finding a template. I would like to start using a thermometer to rate postings, that kind of looks like a cartoon but with a themometer coming out of it. And depending upon how negative the post would be would indicate how negative a post it would be. Not sure of the scale…US uses Farenheight and most of the rest of the world uses Celsius. Might just use a 1-10 rating. Ten being really sucky like George Bush, which would be the most negative, and 1 being mildly annoying, kind of like Gilbert Godfrey. Of course this is all in my head, totally conceptual, but if there are any good artists out there who would like to submit graphics, I can give you some press and links, and maybe a little dinero. I tried making one in my simple art program, but it was truly embarassing.

Italian Food – Boyertown

Fine Italian Dining in Boyertown

Sausage Marinara

Sausage Marinara,
originally uploaded by Emperor Anton.

On Mondays my favorite hangout in Boyertown is Durangos Saloon on Mainstreet in Boyertown. Durango’s is by far our favorite restaurant to dine at in Boyertown due to the fine dining and a great selection of beer that they have on tap. The head chef who frequently walks around the establishment, is always making sure that the patrons are satisfied. If you stop in, get the Sausage Marinara, it is one of my favorites.

Slaw Dogs

Posted by firstman2006 on May 26, 2006

Slaw Dogs have been on my mind eversince Lizzy took me to Atlanta and had a coleslaw dog at The Varsity Jr restaurant I have looked and eaten them at all opportunities. slaw DogsA slaw dog is a hot dog with coleslaw. The slaw dogs at the varsity have a unique type of coleslaw that as Ed Williams says “sort of blends into the flavor of the wiener” . I will have to try the ones at Nu-Way, since they were declared the best in the nation by the NY Times. Hmm, must be good. Slaw Dogs not only have coleslaw, but can and should have other ingriedients also. I myself like a nice creamy coleslaw, but I start with a steamed New England style top split hot dog roll, then squirt a line of mustard inside, place the hotdog(preferably Kunzler) into roll, cover with chopped Vadalia onions if available, and then cover with creamy coleslaw. yum.

Slaw Dog list:

  1. CeGee’s Blandon, PA 610-944-8977
    • Hot dogs are available as plain or Coney Island. I had a Coney Island with Coleslaw. It was loaded with stuff to include chili, onions and of course coleslaw. Very tasty indeed. They also have pretty darn good milk shakes.
  2. CD’s Place 237 N Reading Ave, Boyertown, PA(610) 367-6734
    • With the encouragement of Lizzy and her family, CD put them on the menu. CD’s slaw dogs have onions, mustard and slaw. You can get two slaw dogs, a soda and chips for under 5 bucks. CD’s is great not only for the Slaw Dogs, but he has cool rock n’ roll stuff all over the place along with some groovy music continuously playing on the radio.
  3. Hatfield Ice Arena Cafe 350 County Line Road, Colmar Pa. 18915, (215)-997-3366
    • When my son had a match there, the owner of the cafe, made one when I asked him.
  4. The Varsity Jr 1085 Lindbergh Drive, Atlanta, GA 30324, (404) 261-8843
    • My first Slaw Dog, truly mouth watering.
  5. JukeBox Cafe, 535 S Reading Ave., Boyertown, PA 19512 (610)-369-7272
    • Very nice cafe- ordered a “Hound Dog” which is their hot dog and they will put anything you want on it, includeing slaw. Slaw dog came open faced, split in half, with both dog and bun grilled. It was quite tasty.
  6. AmazingHotDog.com 148A Bloomfield Ave Verona, New Jersey 07044 (973)-433-3074
    • I have never been here, but I read a review of the place and checked out their menu, slaw dogs are on it. Also saw some other interesting dogs…namely a hot dog with cream cheese and onions. Might have to make the 2 hr trip to check em out.
  7. Traub’s Doggies– 251 Main Street ; Emmaus, PA 18049, 610-967-5003, MOn-Sat 11am-8pm. Nice little place…mom and Pop store. Great rolls. Not an official slaw dog, but they do have little individual serving sizes in their cooler. Did I mention I liked their rolls. I talked to one guy, (a retired chiropractor) and he said he liked their dogs, but he thought it was too much roll.
  8. Talarico Sandwich Shop – 425 E. Philadelphia Ave. Boyertown, PA 610-367-2209. Again not an official slaw dog, but they have dogs on the grill and slaw as a side. I can make my own.(update:slaw is a vinegar type, not my favorite for slaw for slaw dogs)
  9. Hermans Drive-In– 50 W. Weiss St. Topton, PA 19562 Phone: 610-682-2128 – Soft serve ice cream along with hot dogs(Kuntzler I believe). They also sell individual servings of creamy style Slaw. I order two with onions and a side of slaw. Oh yea baby.

Got some places you think I should check out, let me know.
