Sunrocket VOIP for Phone Service

Posted by firstman2006 on September 11, 2006

In the post entitled “VOIP and Calling Cards”  I first wrote about my initial exposure to VOIP as a telephone service.  Then a friend of mine suggested I check out this telephone service that lets you call internationally for a low monthly fee. http://www.sunrocket.com/ provides a service that is very similar to Vonage. According to my friend, I would be able to take it with me and use anywhere, as long as I had a high-speed Internet service I would be able to use it. This would be great to use between the office and home. Currently, we use our cell phones in the office, since there is only one line in the office. I also did a little research last night and checked out several blogs concerning Sunrocket. I had been on a negative sunrocket blog, that told of customers misfortune and poor service when trying to solve a problem. However, the most recent entry was in January of 2006. In more recent blog postings, according to Rich Tehrani, in the post “SunRocket Gets Funding” that Sunrocket had gotten a serious influx of VC. Perhaps with the influx of dinero, they were able to work on their customer support issues. I also suppose like any business, there are going to be people that have a good relationship and people that have a bad relationship. According to Pedro Vera’s Web Log, in August 2006, he had been a satisfied Sunrocket customer for well over 4 months, who had a few minor problems, mainly the cheap phones that he was using, which had nothing to do with the Sunrocket. Another satisfied customer, Mr. Shinney of “Mr. Shinney’s Blog of Goodness” has nothing negative to say, and actually was eager to sign up for his second year of Sunrocket service.

Well, I will have to make the leap of faith and sign up myself. I have already made a tiny leap, and forwarded the Sunrocket url to my boss. I better hurry and sign up so I can give him my affiliate link…another good thing they have an affiliate program so customers can actually make money for telling other people about their experiences with Sunrocket.

VOIP and Calling Cards

Posted by firstman2006 on August 29, 2006

I was just reading Tom Keatings VOIP blog were the he poses the question  “VoIP spells doom for calling card business?”  In my post “Phone Calls While Traveling” I state that I believe that calling cards are a great item to have in case of an emergency or to use while traveling to avoid roaming charges. Mr. Keating gives his readers some great information about using calling cards for VOIP calling. This is area that many of the calling card companies, Cloncom included, will be venturing.  I am pretty unfamiliar with VOIP at the present although Lizzie does have Vonage. I must admit I did experiment with using IM to talk to people while using a microphone and headset, but was turned off by the echo. It has come a long way since then. There have been times, such as in ski lodges, which have wireless connections but no cell phone signal that I would be temped to use VOIP to make phone calls. I do make a prediction, that in addition to using Lizzies Vonage, I will use VOIP while traveling, and may even purchase pc to phone calling cards from Cloncom.com

Phone Calls while Traveling

Posted by firstman2006 on July 26, 2006

cell phone off

I love those movies where the person throws their phone into the ocean. More times than I can count I have been temped to do this. It seems that they are an integeral part of our lives, so much so that kids request them for presents. When I go on vacation I need to take one with to stay in touch with kids and unfortuneatly work. I don’t need it that much for work, but Lizzie is continually using hers for client calls. While in Canada last winter she had many calls, and she then had quite a phone bill the following month. As a result of this trip, I now propose that while traveling abroad, International Calling Cards be used for making any phone calls that will be over a minute. These can be purchased on line from Cloncom.com ahead of time, for very reasonable rates. I actually suggest that people keep a calling card handy for emergencies. Cloncom also sells wireless calling cards that can be used on the invader of our personal time, the cell phone.
